I know I shouldn’t do this but…

Wednesday 18th November 2009

I know, I know, I KNOW it’s bad form to respond to criticism, but I feel oddly proud of this bad review:

“In a word, awful. This has to have been one of the worse books I have ever read…”

It’s from the Goodreads website, read the rest of it here:

It really is a beauty.

Thanks Mel, and thank you Janie, who goes on to agree with Mel and say

“I absolutely insist on a book’s having a point. :) “

A smiling face right back at you Janie.

Surely if someone is going to criticise someone else’s work, they should at least ensure that their own spelling, punctuation and grammar is correct before hitting post? Or am I an Eats Shoots and Leaves sort of a snob?

I must admit to be disappointed as well. I was waiting for the bit at the end where the protagonist fights a huge monster amid massive explosions, and then you find out he’s really a woman. (Which, come to think of it, would give the whole ‘how can a woman write as a man?’ thing something of a new twist.)

Looks like there’s a Melissa/Janie backlash in what the media are already calling “people who shouldn’t be allowed to read books-gate”.

Not a hit with fluffy dogs in purple glasses? I hear its a hard niche to crack.
